Improving Your Checking Account Management
We’re always improving the way we keep you updated about your available balance and checking account activity. We want you to be more aware of your account balance so you don’t spend more money than you have available in your account. We want to help you avoid overdrafts by making it easier to see how much money is available to spend or withdraw right now.
Pending Check Transactions
When a check you write from your Regions personal checking account is cashed or deposited, it may show as a pending transaction and reduce your available balance (the amount you can spend) by the amount of the check at the time it is presented to us for payment.
Showing the check as pending is our way of letting you know that your check has been presented for payment and may be processed that night. This will allow you time to make a deposit to cover the check before the end of day cutoff if needed – potentially avoiding or reducing overdraft fees.
- You can check your available balance before making additional purchases that day to make sure you have enough money in your account to cover the expense.
- You can transfer or deposit funds before the 8 p.m. CT cutoff time if you believe your account may overdraft when we post the check at the end of that business day.
- You can see if a check you wrote may be processed that day by logging into Online Banking or Mobile Banking.
Time Order Posting
We post transactions on your account at the end of the day. We apply your available credits and deposits first to give you the highest beginning available balance. Then, we take a time order approach to your debits, withdrawals and payments and post them in the time order that we receive them.
We have amended the terms of the Regions Deposit Agreement to reflect the posting order described above. You can find full details Deposit and Card Agreements.
Debit Card Transactions
You won’t be charged an overdraft fee when an authorized debit card transaction overdraws your account if there was enough money in your account to cover the transaction at the time we authorized the purchase.

Online Banking Enhancements
We've also made it easier to see how much money is available in your account so you can make the best financial decisions for you, by:
- Using simple, plain language to describe your pending transactions.
- Including the expiration date when funds on hold from a check you deposit will be available to spend.
- Showing your Projected Available Balance so you know how much money you have available to spend after funds from deposits are made available and debit transactions have been presented during nightly posting.[2]
